Abnormal swellings are one of the commonest presentations in snakes. Visible or palpable masses may be either the presenting complaint or they may be found during [[Snake Physical Examination|physical examinations]]. A full [[Lizard and Snake Taking a History|history]] may reveal that many lumps such as abscesses and [[Neoplasia - Pathology|neoplasia]] have been progressivly enlarging while others will appear acutely. A thorough Physical examination may give an indication of aetiology because of the position of the mass; the differential diagnosis is in part based on the position of the lump within the body.
