Recurrent airway obstruction (RAO) is an inflammatory, obstructive airway disease that becomes clinically evident in middle-aged horses.

RAO is an inflammatory obstructive airway disease
that usually becomes apparent in middle-aged and older
horses. Once it is clinically evident, the susceptibility to
disease persists for the life of the horse; however, if successfully
managed, horses can remain in remission with
normal pulmonary function
