Planning an anaesthetic protocol for animals that present with underlying disease conditions requires special consideration with regard to the physiological effects that the drugs and anaesthetic will have on that individual. The choice of regime must reflect the risk factors implied by the underlying condition and active preventative care given to ensure that the condition does not worsen as a result of the anaesthetic procedure.
