  • Caused by ingestion of plants that have accummulated excessive amounts of selenium
  • May affect any herbivore, possibly also pigs
  • Acute poisoning:
    • Multiple organ systems are involved
  • Chronic poisoning
    • Poor hair quality, partial alopecia
    • Horses - loss of mane and tail hair, deformed hooves that may be shed
