  • Increased myofibre or whole muscle diameter
  • Caused by increased work load on myofibres:
    • Work hypertrophy
      • Increased physiological work
      • Due to training, pregnancy
    • Compensatory hypertrophy
    • Myofilaments are added -> diameter increases
    • Increased work load -> longitudinal splitting of fibres within one endomysial tube
