There is also bilateral exophthalmos present. The changes are those typical of ‘dropsy’ in which there is an upset in the fluid balance mechanisms with retention of fluid within the abdominal cavity and tissues. Tissue edema results in retrobulbar swelling which in turn produces the exophthalmos. |
