The coral snake (Micruroides euryxanthus) has a potent venom and striking colouring. The body is totally encircled by black, yellow and red bands (red is next to yellow) while the head is black from the snout to lust just behind the mouth. This colouring is similar to several nonvenomous colubrids (red is not usually next to yellow). They originate from northern Mexico, New Mexico and Arizona.
