- Often interchangeable with the term pancreatic hypoplasia
- Recognised in dogs, esp. GSDs where it appears to be inherited as an autosomal recessive trait
- Usually show symptoms of EPI at 6 - 12 months of age
- Some small areas of pancreatic tissue usually remain
