Biography

Dr Hafez is head of the Institute of Poultry Diseases at the Free University of Berlin.

He gained his Master of Veterinary Science at the department of Poultry Diseases of Cairo University in 1975, and in 1981 completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the department of Poultry Diseases, Giessen University, Germany.

In 1994 he finished the Habilitation thesis at the department of Poultry Diseases in Munich University, Germany.

Hafez has been a Veterinary Poultry Specialist since 1982; Veterinary Microbiology Specialist since 1989, Veterinary Animal Hygiene Specialist since 1996 and since 2005, Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health (Dipl. ECVPH) and since 2008 Diplomate of the European College of Poultry Veterinary Science (Dipl. ECPVS).

Dr Hafez's career has focused on poultry diseases diagnosis and control in general and in particular respiratory and food borne diseases, management, and hygiene.

Since 1996: honorary Professor at the University of Hohenheim, Germany
Since 2009: honorary Professor at the University of Alexandria, Egypt

Professor Hafez has published widely in scientific journals, proceedings, books and magazines as well as supervised many doctoral theses and masters degrees.
