Haemorrhage
- Haemorrhage of the kidneys can occur due to trauma, septicaemia, viraemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation (dic) or bleeding disorders.
- Gross haemorrhage both subcapsular or intrarenal is usually due to trauma whereas petechial haemorrhages are common in septicaemia secondary to erysipelas or salmonella infections. Note, petechial haemorrhages can occur in young, anaemic pigs as well as the kidneys of healthy, slaughtered animals.
