The salt gland(s) in reptiles are used for excreting concentrated excess salt solutions (osmoregulation). In certain terrestrial lizards such as the iguana they are located in the nasal passages and excrete via the nares. Owners may sometimes confuse this with a discharge associated with a respiratory tract infection.
