The University of Concepción (in Spanish: Universidad de Concepción), also known for its acronym UdeC, is one of the most prestigious universities in Chile. Founded in 1919, it is the third oldest university in the country, and it is part of the Council of Rectors (of Chilean Universities). It was the first University founded in the South of Chile, and the first to become a private-law corporation. <br />

Veterinary medicine was primarily founded in the City of Concepción in 1972, under tuition of the Biology Institute attached to its own School, the School of Veterinary Medicine. Later in 1973 it was moved to the Chillán campus where the administrative structure was changed, giving rise to the Department of Veterinary Medicine as part of the College of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences.<br />

The Department of Veterinary Medicine later combined with the College of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences and the College was then known as “College of Agronomic, Veterinary and Forestry Sciences”. Thereafter, Agricultural Engineering career was created at the Chillán campus and the Forestry Engineering was moved to Concepción campus. In 1993 the College of Agronomic, Veterinary and Forestry Sciences was transformed into the faculties that currently belong to the Chillán campus; College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Agronomy and College of Agricultural Engineering.<br />

In 2002 the Veterinary Clinical Hospital was founded at the Chillán campus. Subsequently the College (of Veterinary Medicine) changed its name to College of Veterinary Sciences which then allowed for the creation of the Veterinary Medicine career in the City of Concepción in 2004. In 2007, UdeC Veterinary Clinic was founded at the Concepción campus.<br /><br />

In 2002 the Veterinary Clinical Hospital was opened at the Chillán campus. The studies of Veterinary Medicine at the College of Veterinary Sciences last five years (10 semesters). It is a biological medical teaching, designed to train professionals capable to cover the occupational fields of the specialty. <br />
