Acquired abnormalities of the spermatic cord

  • TORSION
  1. Trauma:swelling and oedema induces torsion of cord.
  2. Cryptorchid testes:more mobile.


  • FUNICULITIS

Inflammation of cord, often following castration. Seen in horses, dogs and pigs.
Castration wound chronically infected with Staph. aureus, A. pyogenes. This leads to granulomas and multiple small abscesses giving 'scirrhous cord'. (Horse and pigs - “botriomycosis”).
