Metabolic Disease

  • Forebrain function may be altered by a variety of metabolic disturbances, including:
    • Liver disease
    • Renal disease
    • Pancreatic disease
    • Hypo/hyper-glycaemia
    • Electrolyte abnormalities
    • Acid-base abnormalities.
  • Generally, the nervous system signs of these diseases are diffuse and often symmetrical in the rostrotentorial area.
  • Strucural disease of the brain may result
    • This may cause focal neurological deficits.
