M.gallisepticum is a species of the Mycoplasmas genus. It causes chronic repsiratory disease in chickens and infectious sinusitis in turkeys. Transmission occurs via the egg and aerosol.
Infection of M.gallisepticum results in reduced egg production. Identification of M.gallisepticum can be via serum plate agglutination test, haemagglutination inhibition and ELISA tests. It can be controlled in specific-pathogen-free flocks and there are modified, live vaccines and bacterins available.
