Lizard Bloat

This is an uncommon problem but may be seen in neonatal to juvenile iguanas. There is no definitive aetiology but it may be associated with malnutrition or metabolic bone disease.

• Diagnosis - history taking, physical examination, radiology and necropsy (the gastrointestinal tract is grossly distended with gas).

• Treatment - Supportive care but largely unsuccessful.

• Prevention - Proper husbandry and diet.
