History= The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ankara University was, until 1970, the only Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to offer education and research. Since then it has also contributed to the establishment and development of other Veterinary Faculties in Turkey.

The Veterinary Medicine education in Turkey was first established in Istanbul in 1842 at the Military Veterinary School. Later in 1889 the Civilian Veterinary School was founded. These two institutions were merged under the name of Veterinary Higher School in 1920. Within the framework of the higher education reforms of the Turkish Republic, the veterinary higher school was transferred to Ankara in 1933 with its entire academic and administrative staff and was renamed as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Following the establishment of the University of Ankara in 1946, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was made a part of the University of Ankara in 1948.
