- These curved, microaerophilic, Gram-negative rods were discovered in the stomach of humans in 1987.
- Helicobacter pylori in man.
- In dogs: H. felis, H. bizzozeronii, H. salomonis and H. bilis.
- A bacterial pathogen of the intestines.

- Require enriched media; some grow on Skirrow agar
