      • Usually subclinical disease
    • Hepatozoon americanum
      • SE USA
      • Grossly:
        • Thickened and edematous periskeletal soft tissue and periosteum of the lower legs
        • Multifocal parasitic myositis
      • Histologically:
        • Swelling and hypertrophy of osteoprogenitor cells
        • Hyperplasia of spindle cells
        • Osteoid is produced
