Affects epidermis and upper infundibulum of hair follicles
No scarring when healed
Grossly:
- Erythema
- Alopecia
- Papules and pustules
- Crusts
- Epidermal collarettes
Microscopically:
- Intraepidermal pustular dermatitis
- Superficial suppurative folliculitis
- Bacteria commonly not seen
