Infectious agents

• Inflammation of the larynx - laryngitis.

• Laryngitis can occur as part of an extension of an upper or lower viral or bacterial respiratory infection
  • eg: IBR, FHV-1, EHV-1, influenza viruses
  • eg: Bordetella bronchiseptica, Strep. equi.subsp. zooepidemicus/equi, Pasteurella multocida
• May cause
  • Obstruction to airflow
  • Aspiration pneumonia
• Acute inflammation passes through the same stages as in rhinitis
