Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis
Phylum Actinobacteria
Order Actinomycetales
Family Corynebacteriaceae
Genus Corynebacterium
Species C.pseudotuberculosis

Also known as: C.pseudotuberculosis

Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is a species of the Corynebacterium genus. It causes caseous lymphadenitis and is involved in deep pyoderma. The organism survives in environment for several months and causes disease in horses and cattle.

C. pseudotuberculosis produces small, white colonies, surrounded by a narrow zone of complete haemolysis. The colonies become dry and cream-coloured. Certain strains of C. pseudotuberculosis reduce nitrates and an enhancement of haemolysis is produced by C. pseudotuberculosis when inoculated across a streak of Rhodococcus equi.
